Are all-wheel drive systems worth the extra cost?

I am considering purchasing a Volkswagen T-Roc and I'm torn between opting for the all-wheel drive version or saving some money and going for front-wheel drive. Is it worth the extra cost for the added traction and performance? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
