How often should I get my Volkswagen Golf serviced?

I recently purchased a used Volkswagen Golf and I'm not sure how often I should bring it in for maintenance. Help!

I bring mine in every 6 months just to be on the safe side. It's always better to be proactive with car maintenance.

I've found that taking my car to a reputable mechanic rather than the dealership has saved me a lot of money in servicing costs.

I always schedule my service appointments ahead of time to make sure I don't forget or have to wait too long for an available spot.
