Is a Volkswagen Passat a reliable car?

I'm considering buying a used Volkswagen Passat, but I've heard mixed reviews about their reliability. Can anyone share their personal experience with this car?

In my experience, the VW Passat has been a very reliable car. I've owned one for 5 years and never had any major issues.

I've heard that the newer Passats have improved in reliability. Maybe consider a newer model?
