What type of oil should I use for my Volkswagen Passat?

I recently purchased a Volkswagen Passat and want to make sure I am using the correct oil type for optimal performance. Does the type of oil vary depending on the model year or engine type? Would you recommend a specific brand or viscosity? I want to make sure I am taking the best care of my car.

As a mechanic, I have seen a lot of Volkswagen Passats over the years. In my experience, the best oil to use is a synthetic 5W-30. It might be slightly more expensive than traditional oil, but it will help prolong the life of your engine.

I have a 2015 Passat and I usually go to the dealership for my oil changes. They always use a synthetic 5W-40, which is recommended by Volkswagen. I have never had any issues with this type of oil.
