Which Year Model of Volkswagen Golf is Reliable?

I'm planning on buying a used Volkswagen Golf, but I've heard that some of the year models have more issues than others. Can someone provide some insight on which year model of Volkswagen Golf is the most reliable? I want to make sure I'm making a good investment.
