Why is my Volkswagen Passat overheating?

I've noticed that my Volkswagen Passat has been overheating more frequently than usual. The temperature gauge goes into the red zone and I'm worried about causing damage to the engine. What could be causing this and what steps should I take to fix it?

It could be a problem with your coolant levels. Check to make sure they are at the recommended level and top up if necessary. Also, check for any leaks in the cooling system.

D

Another possibility is a faulty thermostat. This can cause the engine to overheat. It's best to have a mechanic diagnose and replace it if necessary.

Make sure your radiator is clean and free of any debris. A clogged radiator can also lead to overheating.
