My 2015 Volkswagen Touareg has a check engine light on. Should I be worried?

I've had my Volkswagen Touareg for a few years now and recently the check engine light came on. I've looked online and it could be a variety of issues. Is this something I should be concerned about or is there a way for me to fix it on my own?

Hi Samantha, a check engine light can be caused by a variety of issues and can vary in severity. It's always a good idea to have it checked out by a mechanic just to be safe. They can run a diagnostic and determine the root cause of the light.

In some cases, a check engine light can be triggered by something as simple as a loose gas cap. Check to make sure it's secure and see if the light goes off. If it does, then you're all good!

I had a similar issue with my Volkswagen Touareg. Turns out it was just a faulty sensor and didn't require any major repairs. But it's always best to have a professional diagnose the issue.
